Im Grabber 2 0 Crack Cocaine
I’m currently travelling throughout Asia and even though I’m underage Asian ppl don’t give a fuck and my parents have been chill so I went to order a vodka red bull. My family member then lectured me about how a friend in the youth hostel said Asian energy drinks such as their red bull and Joss are extremely chemically similar to cocaine. How it’s basically like doing coke. I laughed and steered the subject off it as I don’t want my parents to catch on to my drug knowledge all over some stupid myth.
I looked up the ingredients and they both just contain high doses of caffeine which is indeed still a stimulant but I’ve skulled my fair share or energy drinks and work and can say it’s no coke. I just wish people would learn to not buy into stupid shit people say that doesn’t make sense. Like put two and two together and think why a communist country like Vietnam would sell a drink that can resembles cocaine.
The ignorance or not wanting to learn astounds me. Other myths I’ve heard, one from my schoolmate was that 2cb was just MDMA and LSD mixed together and it wasn’t a substance and that his pills had more LSD in them. That was fun waving the psychonaut wiki page in front of him till he actually read it. Let’s try and change the spread of stupid mis information and dumb as fuck myths. Also tell me the stupidest drug myths you’ve heard.

At thanksgiving my mom warned me not to drink any energy drinks for my shift that night (retail Black Friday, yayyy) because they can cause a heart attack. I said they can in at-risk people and if you drink several in a small time period or drink them constantly, but drinking one to help you through your Black Friday shift won’t cause a heart attack. She claimed she’d read an article about a woman my age who had drank just one Monster and suffered a heart attack. I asked if the woman was on any other stimulants like Adderall, cocaine, or amphetamines, but she didn’t know. I let the topic blow over, but I wanted to tell her how these stories about people dying from energy drinks are sensationalized and never tell you if the person who died was already at risk for a heart attack or if they were on any other substances that could counteract with the drink or encourage cardiac arrest. I’ve never even done any kind of speed, and I rarely drink energy drinks and favor coffee over them because of the sugar content of the drinks, but I just can’t believe people never take into account what other substances people are on when they die from drinking a Monster.
Chances are, they were already somehow at risk for a heart attack if all it took was a single can of Monster to kill them. Like, my mother is 55, energy drinks have existed for years and have become safer (but not healthier by any means) over the years as well. How can she read one Daily Mail article and become convinced her completely healthy 24 year old daughter will die from a single Monster or Red Bull? 🙄 I wonder if she’s gone senile sometimes. My roommates girlfriend asked my girlfriend how she deals with me having erectile dysfunction, because she saw on a Facebook post that smoking weed causes erectile dysfunction. Another time she asked me how bad acid fucked up my brain, because her Korean church pastor told them LSD causes lifetime damage.

She told her boyfriend (my roommate and landlord) that I need to be evicted because if I get caught with weed in the house, his property value will go down. He told her that's not true and they got in a verbal fight over it. The Red Bull and coke thing in Asia is something I heard about over 7 years ago too. I do remember that Thai Red Bull was different and stronger than what we get in the states. I’ve also heard that 2cb comment before as well. I think these things start out as someone making a comment like “ oh yeah the Red Bull is as strong as coke in Thailand” and that is told so many times that it gets warped into something else and myth.
Kind of like a lot of other drug myths. Also do they still have the magic mushroom shakes down in the islands? I also remember ketamine flowing like crazy in Cambodia. It comes from the reactions within the brain, actually doing a lot of drugs is like doing cocaine pharmacologically. It’s just an attention grabber, but it does make sense - cocaine acts to increase dopamine in the brain, which caffeine also does, and their stimulant effects are ascribed to the fact that dopamine is metabolised to adrenaline. Alcohol releases dopamine in the reward centre (mesolimbic pathway), which is responsible for the euphoric effect and subsequent alcoholism, but it may also increase the effect of dopamine transporter proteins which enhances reuptake, reducing the dopamine concentration in the synapse.
